The Clean Energy Solutions Center, in partnership with the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21), hosted this webinar on off-grid renewables.

Participants learned how increased additions of solar PV and wind in the electricity sector have driven other energy sectors and how 2015 marks when, for the first time, investment by developing countries surpassed that of industrialized countries.

The webinar begin with an overview of REN21’s newly released Renewables 2016 Global Status Report and then looked at off-grid renewables and their role in increasing energy access. The explosive growth of the sector and the market opportunities that the off-grid sector offers were also discussed.

Presentations were be followed by an interactive question and answer session with the audience.

Christine Lins, Executive Secretary, Renewable Energy Policy Network of the 21st Century (REN21)

Ms. Lins was appointed as Executive Secretary of the Renewable Energy Policy Network of the 21st Century (REN21) in July 2011. REN21 is a global, public-private multi-stakeholder network on renewable energy that convenes international organizations, governments, industry associations, science and academia as well as NGOs working in the field of renewable energy. REN21 has its headquarters at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Paris, France. Ms. Lins has more than 18 years of working experience in the field of renewable energy sources.

Kristina SkierkaKristina Skierka, Campaign Director, Power for All

As the Campaign Director of the Power for All campaign, Kristina has helped create a movement dedicated to achieving universal energy access by 2025. With expertise in both energy and public awareness campaigns, Kristina has led a number well-known environmental leadership initiatives in the energy sector for both private companies (Applied Materials’ “Bright Futures”, Sun Microsystems’ “Eco Responsibility,” d.light’s “Future of Energy”) and public organizations (the State of California’s Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan, as well as the award-winning Flex Your Power campaign). Kristina was named Energy Foundation’s Senior Fellow in 2009 and finalist for the 2015 Clean Energy Ministerial's C3E award.
