Off-grid solar systems provide an estimated 73 million households with access to modern energy services globally. High-performing off-grid appliances allow end users to increase productivity while maximizing the efficiency of their system, delivering a range of economic and social benefits.
The off-grid appliance sector, while still nascent, is on the cusp of transformational growth in 2020 and beyond, with policymakers, regulators, investors, and development institutions now placing greater emphasis on the role they play in delivering higher tiers of energy access.
In this exciting webinar Dalberg Advisors presented key findings from the New 2019 Efficiency for Access State of the Off-Grid Appliance Market Report and The World Bank Group Lighting Global program’s Market Research on Productive Use Leveraging Solar Energy (PULSE) report. Experts discussed the latest trends for off-grid TVs, fans, refrigerators, solar water pumps, and other productive use equipment. And prresented topics included:
- Estimated market size for TVs, fans and refrigerators
- Market trend information, including insights about consumers and emerging business models
- Barriers to growth and solutions to achieve scale.
The webinar also included an in-depth discussion where representatives from Efficiency for Access, GOGLA, Power for All, and the World Bank Group Lighting Global program’s. Panelists shared insights from their related research and experiences, such as lighting and appliance data collection and what the growing off-grid market means for jobs and domestic value creation in emerging economies. The event concluded with an audience question and answer session.
This webinar was brought to you by the Distributed Rural Energy Data Network and Efficiency for Access.
The Distributed Rural Energy Data Network is a group of researchers, data practitioners and enthusiasts focused on the role, impacts and acceleration of distributed renewables in low-energy access countries. Its goal is to improve knowledge sharing, networking, and coordination on research and data analysis in the sector. The network is coordinated by Power for All, GOGLA, CLASP and AMDA.
Efficiency for Access is a global coalition promoting energy efficiency as a potent catalyst in clean energy access efforts. Since its founding in 2015, Efficiency for Access has grown from a year-long call to action and collaborative effort by Global LEAP and Sustainable Energy for All to a coalition of 14 donor organizations. Coalition programmes aim to scale up markets and reduce prices for super-efficient, off- and weak-grid appropriate products, support technological innovation, and improve sector coordination. Current Efficiency for Access Coalition members lead 14 programmes and initiatives spanning three continents, 44 countries, and 22 key technologies.
