Principal Engineer, ITP Renewables
Phil has more than 12 years’ experience in the renewable energy sector, predominantly in remote areas of Australia and the Pacific, working on outer-island electrification using off-grid PV systems and grid-connected PV systems. His main area of expertise is the design and specification of renewable energy systems. He is a member of the Standards Australia EL-042 committee, which is responsible for PV inverter and energy storage standards. He has also delivered a University of NSW postgraduate course on mini-grid design and optimisation.
Phil has extensive experience designing, specifying, procuring, installing and commissioning PV-battery-diesel hybrid systems in the Pacific and Australia. He led the team responsible for the installation of three 300-kWp PV-battery-diesel hybrid systems in Tokelau. He also designed a further four PV-diesel mini-grid systems for Tuvulu’s outer islands, as well as grid-connected PV systems in Funafuti. He also designed and specified large-scale PV and battery systems for the World Bank in Tuvalu and for CSIRO in Western Australia. The PV system for Tuvalu is likely to use floating PV systems, which would be the first in the Pacific region.
