India partners with the 21st Century Power Partnership to host international peer-to-peer consultations on variable renewable energy integration.

Under the auspices of the 21st Century Power Partnership, the Indian Planning Commission and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy hosted a series of multilateral peer-to-peer consultations in India 8-10 April 2013. The workshops focused on priority topics relating to the integration of variable renewable energy integration, especially ancillary services, forecasting, grid extension, and system operation.

The consultations involved a delegation of experts from the US and Europe, including the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, International Energy Agency, European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, and the Spanish transmission system operator, Red Eléctrica de España.

Indian experts in attendance included leaders of the Indian Planning Commission, Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, and national, regional, and state grid operators.

Next steps identified in the consultations will inform a multi-year, multilateral work plan, and they will be announced during the Fourth Clean Energy Ministerial to be held 17-18 April in New Delhi.
