Presentation—Karin Widegren: The Swedish Action Plan for Smart Grid

The Coordination Council and National Knowledge Platform for Smart Grids was appointed by the Swedish Government in 2012 with a mission to encourage, inform and plan for the development of smart grids from 2015 to 2030. In December 2014, the Coordination Council delivered its proposal for a national smart grid roadmap to the Government. The roadmap’s objectives are to establish clear ground rules in the market, strengthened customer empowerment and beneficial development conditions for smart grids in Sweden, as well as to promote smart grids as a Swedish growth industry.
This webinar—hosted by the Solutions Center in partnership with the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN)—provided an overview of the recommendations and proposals presented in the roadmap and lessons learned during the process that defined key issues to address. Although the report is in Swedish, an English summary can be found on page 19 (PDF).

Karin Widegren
Until the end of 2014, Karin Widegren was the Director of the National Coordination Council for Smart Grids in Sweden, formed by the Swedish government in 2012. Before joining the Council, Karin served as Director of International Affairs at the Energy Markets Inspectorate (EI), the Swedish energy regulator. Her career also includes positions as the Science and Technology Attaché at the Swedish Office of Science and Technology in the USA and as the Deputy Director for Energy Market Policies at the Swedish Ministry of Ministry of Industry, Employment and Communications. As a former Research Project Manager within Vattenfall, Karin has gained broad experience from corporate energy research.
