Aquaculture

Because the demand for seafood products is greater than what natural fish stocks can produce, aquaculture is one of the fastest growing practices for producing aquatic food products, and it is responsible for 50 per cent of the fish used for food (“Aquaculture”, Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN). Responsible aquaculture practices and use of clean energy technologies can decrease the impact this growing industry has on energy-water-food resources, such as conserving freshwater and using ocean thermal energy conversion technologies for cold water aquaculture.
