REN21 2014 Global Status Report Webinar Series > India
The Clean Energy Solutions Center—in partnership with the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21)—hosted this webinar as one in a series of no-cost webinars in conjunction with the launch of REN21’s flagship report, Renewables Global Status Report. This webinar examined India to:
- Find out what renewable changes happened in India over the course of 2013.
- Learn which technologies are contributing to increased power capacity.
- Hear how changes in policies have affected Indian investment levels and market development.
REN21’s Renewables Global Status Report (GSR), first released in 2005, provides a comprehensive and timely overview of renewable energy market, industry, investment and policy developments worldwide. The report is a collaborative effort involving lead authors, REN21 Secretariat staff and Steering Committee members, regional research partners, and the input of over 500 individual contributors and reviewers. The GSR has become the most frequently referenced report on renewable energy business and policy, serving a wide range of audiences.

Christine Lins, Executive Secretary of REN21
Christine Lins was appointed as Executive Secretary of REN21, the Renewable Energy Policy Network of the 21st Century, in July 2011. During the last 10 years, she served as Secretary General of the European Renewable Energy Council, the united voice of Europe’s renewable energy industry. Lins has more than 17 years of working experience in the field of renewable energy sources. Previously, she worked in a regional energy agency in Austria promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. Lins holds a master's degree in international economics and applied languages.
Amit Kumar, Director, Energy-Environment Technology Development Division, TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute
Mr. Kumar is a Mechanical Engineer with specialization in thermal engineering from University of Roorkee (now Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee) where he was awarded the University Gold Medal. Until recently—before he moved to TERI University as Adjunct Professor (Sustainable Energy)—Mr. Kumar led research activities in the fields of renewable energy and resource efficient process technology applications with TERI. He has worked on the development and diffusion of cleaner and renewable energy resources based technological solutions in India for over 31 years. His experience ranges from policy and programme formulation through project implementation to the design and development of renewable energy technologies, as well as manufacturing of solar energy devices. Mr. Kumar was actively involved in projects related to the development of Sri Lanka's policy framework for renewable resource-based electricity generation and the integrated energy management master plan for Bhutan, in addition to coordinating part of a multi-country GEF-supported study to assess solar and wind resources in developing countries. He has also managed design, construction and commissioning of one of the largest solar ponds in Bhuj in western India from 1987 to 1996, as well as Asia's first solar powered cold storage in the early 1980s. He is the Regional Programme Advisor, REEEP (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership) South Asia Secretariat, and he is responsible for REEEP activities in the region. Mr Kumar is also overseeing the SE4All Capacity Building Hub, one of the global hubs of the UN supported Sustainable Energy for All initiative (SE4All).
