China has decided to raise by 30% its solar power installation target for 2015, from an earlier national target of 17.8 gigawatts (GW), to 21.3 GW. The new power projects are expected to be developed in Inner Mongolia and Hebei (northern China) and in Xinjiang (western China).

The new Energy Efficiency Market Report 2015 reveals that energy efficiency improvements since 1990 in IEA member countries avoided 870 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2014 and a cumulative 10 billion tonnes over the last 25 years, roughly equivalent to current annual emissions by all IEA member countries.

A new report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) aims to assist countries in their transition to renewable energy-based power systems. The Age of Renewable Power identifies 20 measures that can be taken to support the development of national roadmaps to integrate variable renewables. It also highlights lessons learned by countries already pursuing a power system transformation.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam is considering implementing an incentive scheme for solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. Under the scheme, PV projects would be entitled for investment credit and export credit incentive.

At the end of the South African International Renewable Energy Conference, 3,600 delegates from 82 countries adopted a declaration expressing their conviction that the increased deployment of renewable energy will have a direct impact on improved global energy access, improved energy security, on mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and on climate change and sustainable economic development.

Worldwide investment in renewable energy and energy-smart technologies totalled $70 billion in the third quarter of 2015, just 1% below the equivalent figure a year earlier, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. A 25% rise in investment in the United States and much larger jumps for Brazil and Chile were among the highlights.
