Four renewable energy projects in developing countries in the Pacific and Africa have been identified by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to receive USD 44.5 million in funding. The funding will support a diverse set of projects, including a hybrid micro-grid project employing solar PV and advanced lithium-ion batteries, a hydropower project, integrated wind and solar, and a combination project consisting of micro-grid and solar home kits. The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a financing package of USD 100 million, comprising USD 50 million equity and USD 50 million convertible senior loans, to seed the Facility for Energy Inclusion, a pan-African renewable energy debt fund. The investment, which is expected to catalyze energy access for an estimated three million people, is rooted in the bank's New Deal on Energy for Africa and increasing global recognition of the importance of energy access in Africa.
