The Clean Energy Solutions Center, in partnership with the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) hosted this webinar on the SmartSacramento smart grid project. A U.S. Department of Energy grant awarded to California’s Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) in 2009 has helped fund more than 40 SmartSacramento smart grid initiatives and R&D projects. SmartSacramento initiatives fall within eight broad smart grid categories: advanced metering infrastructure, distribution automation, consumer behavior study (smart pricing options), customer applications, demand response, technology infrastructure, cyber security and R&D projects
Many innovative projects were developed and implemented as part of this project and many lessons were learned while going through the process of designing initiatives, procuring and installing equipment, and implementing, operating and evaluating programs and pilots. This webinar will provide an overview of the SmartSacramento project and lessons learned throughout the project, as well as a question-and-answer session with the audience.

Presentation
Jim Parks is a program manager in the Energy Research and Development department at the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). His current focus is on completing a $308 million smart grid initiative (SmartSacramento®) with over 50 individual projects, including distribution automation, smart meters, demand response, customer initiatives, dynamic pricing, electric vehicle infrastructure, and hardware and software upgrades. Prior to his current assignment, he worked with emerging energy efficiency technologies, electric transportation, energy efficiency program development, energy efficiency program operations and transmission planning. Parks has over 20 years of experience in the energy industry.
