Presentation—Fabrice Poulin: Off-grid Solar Market Potential and Deployment in Africa

The Clean Energy Solutions Center, in partnership with Enerdata and Infinergia, hosted this webinar on the Africa solar market.

Leveraging desk research and insight from the field, Enerdata, along with its partner Infinergia, gave an overview of the solar market in Africa. On the grid side, the webinar focused on electricity production and the share of solar generation, grid PV installed capacities, main operational plants, grid PV forecasts and market challenges and opportunities. On the off-grid side, presenters analyzed population and electrification issues, installed capacities by region, the Macro-economic Off-Grid (MOG) model and Africa’s country rating and forecast to 2020 of cumulative installed capacities by country.

Panelists

Manfred HafnerManfred Hafner, Partner and Vice-President Consulting, Enerdata

Dr. Manfred Hafner is a recognized expert on energy scenario building, supply-demand assessment, energy policy analysis, market and strategy studies on all energy sources and with a special focus on gas and power markets. During his almost 30 years of working in the field of energy, in which he has consulted extensively for energy companies, governments and international organizations, he has gained considerable worldwide working experience and in particular on European, Middle Eastern, North African, Russian and CIS markets. He has coordinated several major interdisciplinary research projects for the European Commission. He is also a Professor of International Energy at Johns Hopkins University SAIS and Sciences Po Paris. He holds a PhD in Energy Studies from Mines-ParisTech (Ecole des Mines de Paris) and Master’s degrees in Energy Engineering, Economics and Policy from the Technische Universität München, the University of Pennsylvania and the Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP-School). Manfred speaks English, French, German, and Italian fluently and is fairly fluent in Spanish and Russian.

Fabrice PoulinFabrice Poulin, Managing Director, Infinergia Consulting

Fabrice is the founder and Managing Director of Infinergia. He has dual training in electronics and B2B Marketing. He has extensive professional experience in market research on technology and renewable energy markets. In these fields, he directly supervised over 100 consulting missions over multiple topics and countries. He has been working in particular in the photovoltaic and off-grid photovoltaic industry and markets for the past seven years, and he supervised Infinergia’s Report on Africa Off-Grid Photovoltaic Market.
