Measuring the "Smartness" of the Electricity Grid (Webinar)

12 June 2012

In this webinar-based training, presented jointly with the International Smart Grid Action Network, we help policymakers design policies to encourage "smart grids" by defining what makes an electricity grid "smart" and proposing a methodology to measure the smartness of the electricity grid. Participants also learn how to track the status of smart grid development with a defined framework of six characteristics THAT a smart grid should meet. Progress in the development of each characteristic is assessed by several key performance indicators.

Leen VandezandeLeen Vandezande

Vandezande received the M.S. degree in Commercial Engineering in 2005 from the K.U.Leuven, Belgium. In February 2011, she obtained the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, also from the K.U.Leuven, with her Ph.D. manuscript on balancing market design and integration. Currently, she is working as a post-doctoral researcher in the Electric Energy Research Group ELECTA at the K.U.Leuven. Being involved in several European projects in the field of smart grids and in Smart Grids Flanders, a non-profit association bringing together all relevant Flemish stakeholders with respect to the topic "smart grids," she is acquainted with research, policy and market activities in the area of smart grids. Her research interests further include European energy policy and energy market design.
