REN21 2014 Global Status Report Webinar Series > Australia/Oceania
The Clean Energy Solutions Center—in partnership with the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21)—hosted this webinar as one in a series of no-cost webinars in conjunction with the launch of REN21’s flagship report, Renewables Global Status Report. This webinar examined the Australia/Oceania region to:
- Find out what renewable changes happened in Australia/Oceania over the course of 2013.
- Learn which technologies are contributing to increased power capacity.
- Hear how changes in policies have affected investment levels and market development in the Australia/Oceania region.
REN21’s Renewables Global Status Report (GSR), first released in 2005, provides a comprehensive and timely overview of renewable energy market, industry, investment and policy developments worldwide. The report is a collaborative effort involving lead authors, REN21 Secretariat staff and Steering Committee members, regional research partners, and the input of over 500 individual contributors and reviewers. The GSR has become the most frequently referenced report on renewable energy business and policy, serving a wide range of audiences.

Christine Lins, Executive Secretary of REN21
Christine Lins was appointed as Executive Secretary of REN21, the Renewable Energy Policy Network of the 21st Century, in July 2011. During the last 10 years, she served as Secretary General of the European Renewable Energy Council, the united voice of Europe’s renewable energy industry. Lins has more than 17 years of working experience in the field of renewable energy sources. Previously, she worked in a regional energy agency in Austria promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. Lins holds a master's degree in international economics and applied languages.
Kane Thornton, Deputy Chief Executive, Clean Energy Council
Kane Thornton is the Deputy Chief Executive of the Clean Energy Council, the peak body for the renewable energy and energy efficiency industry in Australia. Kane has over a decades experience in energy policy, and he has led the development of the clean energy industry and advocated and help design the policies that have been critical to its growth. He continues to be an active and regular political advocate, public presenter and spokesperson for the clean energy industry. Kane’s previous roles include senior manager and advisor for Hydro Tasmania, Australia’s largest generator of renewable energy and executive officer of Renewable Energy Generators Australia. He has broad international management experience, including holding a range of advisory and board roles with government and non-government organisations in the climate change and energy sector. Kane is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and he has a Masters in International Urban and Environmental Management and Bachelor of Information Technology.
