Readiness for Investment in Sustainable Energy: New World Bank Group Indicators on Sustainable Energy (Webinar)

The Clean Energy Solutions Center, in partnership with the World Bank Group, hosted this webinar on the Readiness for Investment in Sustainable Energy (RISE) project. These new World Bank Group indicators assess the legal and regulatory landscape for investment in sustainable energy. The data collected through RISE help policymakers evaluate the policy and regulatory frameworks for private investment in three pillars of economically and environmentally sustainable energy in coordination with the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) goals: renewable electricity generation, energy efficiency and access to modern energy services.

With 85 detailed indicators and data from 110 countries representing 96% of the global population, RISE will provide a global reference point to help policymakers assess individual countries’ sustainable energy investment frameworks, as well as a powerful tool to help design and implement policies. RISE is currently expanding from an initial pilot covering 17 countries to the full 110-country assessment. The Pilot Report, published in November 2014, including the methodology and full list of the indicators, is available at rise.worldbank.org.

The RISE presentations were followed by an interactive question and answer session with the audience.

Alejandro MorenoAlejandro Moreno

Alejandro Moreno is an Energy Specialist with the World Bank and a co-coordinator of the RISE initiative. He was previously with the IFC Advisory Services Energy & Resource Efficiency team, where he worked with governments in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East and North Africa to design policies and regulations supporting private investment in renewable energy and energy access. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Alejandro held various positions within the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, most recently leading the Department’s hydropower technologies program.
