New research from the New Climate Economy shows that raising energy efficiency standards in the G20 and around the world could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 6.9 Gt CO2e per year by 2030, more than the current annual emissions of the United States. These emissions reductions would be accompanied by economic savings in appliances, buildings, industry, and transport.

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board today approved USD 168 million of GCF funding for projects and programmes worth USD 624 million, marking the end of its launch phase and kick-starting the flow of climate finance through the fund to developing countries. The board estimates the activities supported will generate up to USD 1.3 billion in investments over the coming five years.

The global market for off-grid appliances is poised for rapid, significant growth, according to forthcoming market research sponsored by the Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership, an initiative of the Clean Energy Ministerial.
