The Clean Energy Solutions Center partnered with the Building Efficiency Accelerator (BEA), the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the Colombia Green Council and the World Resources Institute (WRI) offered this webinar on increasing energy savings through building codes.

Building energy codes provide tremendous economic and environmental benefits to the cities and countries that implement them. Codes help improve the energy footprint of new buildings, which over time has a large impact on the total building stock. The energy savings building energy codes produce can reduce energy imports and shortages, improve local air quality and mitigate climate change, all while creating jobs and saving money. Codes create a win-win solution, but achieving these benefits requires closely coordinated strategies for code development, adoption and implementation, and evaluation and improvement.

The webinar offered information on best practices and an opportunity to learn about developing building codes, and an overview of a new playbook the BEA is developing for cities. A case study from a BEA partner city was featured. The webinar presentations were followed by an interactive question and answer session with the audience.


WRI Ross Center’s Buildings Initiative coordinates BEA partnership in support of the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All objective of doubling the rate of energy efficiency improvement worldwide by 2030. The BEA is a public-private collaboration that turns global expertise into action to accelerate local government implementation of building efficiency policies and programs.
