The International Energy Agency launched the IEA Energy Efficiency Indicators Online Training Courses in Mexico City yesterday. The courses, which will be the first professional online courses to be delivered by the IEA, will provide statisticians and policymakers with the tools to collect the information necessary to create energy efficiency indicators.

The Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN) has launched a call for proposals for climate and clean energy projects and businesses in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Selected projects will receive no-cost coaching by professional consultants and, once they are investment-ready, benefit from PFAN’s investment facilitation services. Entrepreneurs looking to initiate or scale-up clean energy or other climate change-related projects and seeking an investment of up to $50 million are invited to apply.

The nine new instruments tackle persistent investment barriers in clean energy, low-carbon transit and sustainable land use in developing countries, with a focus on Brazil and India.

A new policy brief by the International Renewable Energy Agency and the World Resources Institute finds that increasing the share of renewables, in particular solar photovoltaic and wind, in India’s power mix, and implementing changes in cooling technologies mandated for thermal power plants would lower carbon emissions intensity and substantially reduce water withdrawal and consumption intensity of power generation.

The International Renewable Energy Agency has launched the Global Commission on the Geopolitics of Energy Transformation, with the support of the governments of Germany, Norway and the United Arab Emirates. The commission will examine the immediate and longer-term geopolitical implications of global energy transformation driven by large scale-up of renewable energy in the context of global efforts to tackle climate change and advance sustainable development.
